Making Healthier Choices with Weight Watchers

Thank you to Weight Watchers for getting my new year started off right. Though I was compensated for my time and commitment, all views, positive and negative, are my own.

Making Healthier Choices with Weight Watchers #SimpleStart

Hi guys. I wanted to check in with you one more time after starting my journey {again} with Weight Watchers. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this isn’t my first rodeo with Weight Watchers, although their Simple Start plan is new to me. And now that I’ve had a chance to try it out for awhile, I have to tell you:

I really love it.

If you’re familiar with Weight Watchers at all, you know that historically their plans involve counting points, and that constant tallying can sometimes drag you down.  If I’m being honest, I actually kind of like counting points.  To me, it’s sort of a challenge to see how much food I can eat in a day and still stay within my point allowance.

But it’s nice – really nice – to not have to worry about points.  All you do is eat from a list of {power} foods that you can find in any grocery store.  They give you lots of delicious meal ideas or you can make your own.

It’s so simple!

When I’m eating healthy, I feel so, so much better.  And that’s really my end goal here.  While fitting into those skinny jeans would be super duper nice, what I really want is a healthy body and to set a good example for my son.  Eating healthy doesn’t have to be boring – it’s all about making healthier choices.  So if you want a cupcake every once in awhile, then have one – and don’t beat yourself up over it.  Just get back on track, and remember: each day is a new one!

Want to see some examples of healthier options?  Here are a few of my favorites {click on the photo for the recipe}:

Szechuan Orange Chicken on www.kitchenmeetsgirl.com - tastier than takeout in less than half an hour, and under 300 calories! Use Minute brown rice to speed up your weeknight meals!

Filled with fruit, Greek yogurt, and a bit of flaxseed, this berry power smoothie is a #simplestart to a new you!

Tell me: are you interested in seeing more Weight Watcher recipes here?

While it may not always look like it based on my blog posts, we do usually eat healthy most of the time around my house. ;-)

I have a confession to make: I’m an addict.  A sprinkle addict, that is.

I own a million and one different kinds of sprinkles.  No joke.  I have, at last count, three different baskets full of different colors, shapes, and sizes of sprinkles.

And every time I hit my local cake decorating store and/or Michael’s – especially during the holiday season – I come home with half a dozen new shakers of sprinkles.

So when the team at QuirkBooks asked me if I wanted to review Jackie Alpers new book Sprinkles, it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.  I mean, this book is basically justification for all of those sprinkles that I own and love, and grounds for purchasing more.

This book is a sprinkle-lovers dream.  It’s filled with all sorts of stunning ideas on how to incorporate color and fun into every day things – from the simple to extravagant.

Since I live with a 6-year old, we’re on the simple side of the spectrum.  Doodle loved dipping these spoons in melted chocolate and sprinkling on blue and white snowflakes for an elegant winter look.  These were perfect for mixing up our hot chocolate, although we might have tried out a few just straight off the spoon. ;-)

The Magic of My Recipe Magic

Let’s talk recipe sharing for a minute.

My Recipe Magic

I mean, this is a food blog and all.  And if you want to know the truth, the entire reason I started a blog was to catalog the recipes I’d tried and that my family really liked.  No more recipe cards, random scraps of paper shoved down in the bottom of my purse (am I the only one who does this??) or wondering which of my dozens of cookbooks contained the recipe I was looking for.

Blogging is pretty slick.  Food blogging is definitely awesome.  And My Recipe Magic?  It’s where any lover of  food needs to be.

Have you noticed this little guy sitting above the recipe card in some of my recent posts?

Click him. Go ahead. Then come back here and keep reading.

Did you see what happened?  Yep, you clicked right on over to the My Recipe Magic site, developed by the awesome gals behind Six Sisters’ Stuff.  They started this site as a way for recipe lovers, food bloggers and foodies to share recipes, create custom cookbooks, menus, shopping lists, see nutrition values, earn extra income, and get more traffic to their site.

Is that awesome or what?  I’ll be adding the Chef Giovanni icon above the recipe card in my posts, so if you’re interested in looking at the recipe nutrition, all you have to do is click.

As a food blogger, My Recipe Magic has been an invaluable way for me to market my site and increase my traffic.  By linking my recipes there, it creates backlinks to my site, increasing my SEO. It drives traffic back to my site by having people click over to view the directions to my recipe. It helps people find me that may have never found me before – this blogging world is a big, big place!

Plus, I can actually make money by sharing my recipes there.  I’m not going to lie: that’s pretty cool. The more your recipe is liked, shared, and viewed the more money you make. But even better than that, it’s an awesome place for me to connect and network with some of the best bloggers in this recipe sharing community.

A brand-new feature on My Recipe Magic is Reward Points.  The more you use My Recipe Magic by sharing, liking, and submitting recipes, you earn points that can be redeemed for online gift cards and entries for giveaways.  You can earn up to 1,000 points a day, and each week the site has a new prizes and a giveaway to choose from.

Some of you are probably saying, “Ashley, I’m not a food blogger.  Why should I use My Recipe Magic?”

Well, here’s why:
