So, we made homemade vanilla bean ice cream over Memorial Day weekend, ’cause in my house, making homemade ice cream that weekend is sort of tradition.

Of course, I really, really love ice cream, so I’ve sort of decided that I’m making it a tradition to churn homemade ice cream every weekend during the summer months.

I’d like to say I was making it a tradition to eat salads every day for dinner, but that would just be a lie.

Ice cream, baby, that’s where it’s at.

Unless you don’t like ice cream, and then I’m just not sure we can be friends.

As the ice cream was churning, Doodle suggested we make root beer floats.

My child is wise beyond his years, ya’ll.  He’s related to me; that’s a fact.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with root beer floats on their own; quite frankly, nothing reminds me more of summer than a frosty root beer float.  But you know what makes ’em even better?

Vanilla vodka.

Marshmallow vodka.

Or root beer vodka, even.

Looks like I’m going to be making a few more root beer floats.

{Grown Up} Root Beer Float
serves 2
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 2 mugs root beer
  • 2 ounces vanilla, marshmallow, or root beer vodka (optional, but recommended)
  • whipped cream
  • maraschino cherries
  1. Prior to assembling your floats, chill your mugs until frosty.
  2. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the bottom of your mug; add root beer. Repeat.
  3. Add vodka, if desired.
  4. Top with whipped cream and a marischino cherry.
  5. Guzzle and enjoy.
