Banana Bread Donuts with Nutella Glaze

25

Banana Bread Donuts with Nutella Glaze

I really, really love my donut pan.

I can make stuff like banana bread donuts with Nutella glaze in less than 30 minutes, and instantly transform myself into an ultra-cool mom.

While the “cool mom” status doesn’t last for long, I’ll take what I can get.

The really cool thing about these donuts?  They’re baked, and this recipe uses absolutely no oil or butter.

A mashed up banana replaces the oil in this recipe.  I promise, they are still super soft and full of flavor, with flecks of cinnamon and nutmeg throughout.

So not only am I semi-cool, but I’m practically a health nut.

Ooh, and as my awesome Facebook readers suggested, these donuts would be awesome with coconut on the top.

If you don’t have a donut pan, no worries–just make these into muffins.  Raise the oven temperature to 350 and bake for approximately 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Or, spend the $10 and just order one*–believe me, you won’t regret it.  I use mine all.the.time.

And I’m not the only one! Check out some of these other awesome donuts from around blog-world:

Banana Bread Donuts with Nutella Glaze

These donuts taste just like a slice of warm banana bread right from the oven! To make them into muffins, increase your oven temperature to 350 and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Serves: 12 donuts
Ingredients
For the donuts:
  • 2 cups flour
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon banana extract (or vanilla)
  • ½ cup mashed banana (about 1 small banana)
For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons Nutella
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
Method
  1. Preheat oven to 325. Spray a donut pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, combine your dry ingredients. In another large bowl, combine remaining ingredients, through the banana. Stir dry ingredients into your wet ingredients.
  3. Fill donut pan with batter, about ⅔ full.
  4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
To make the glaze:
  1. Whisk together all icing ingredients; dip the tops of the donuts into the icing and garnish with sprinkles.

This looks so much better than the cereal I’m eating right now. I’m going to have to consider getting one of those pans. So much more fun than muffins! These look fantastic!

Done and done. I am TOTALLY making these this weekend! Banana bread is something I can’t resist (okay, I can’t resist any food, but you know what I mean). Plus that Nutella glaze looks SO perfect and sweet, and sprinkles are a girl’s best friend. Basically what I’m trying to say are, these donuts are absolute perfection. And congrats on Doodle’s first day of kindergarten! I bet this was the perfect breakfast to send him on his way to Crayola heaven 🙂

Wow, these look amazing and I’m totally digging how you’ve replaced butter/oil with mashed up bananas. You are certainly too cool for school!

The Nutella glaze sounds amazing. I went to my local supermarket today and I found something new [and exciting]. Chocolate spread (like Nutella) but has popping candy inside it. How cool is that? Endless opputunites FTW!

And the doughnut pan. Yes please! Thanks to you, I’ve now been distracted and have a US amazon cart worth almost $80 (that’s approx $110) haha. Now to wait to pay day so I can actually buy them!

Does the Nutella glaze get “hard” or at least set. I want to make doughnut holes, so I want something that will set up all over the cake.

Hi Katie. The glaze will not get hard, but it will set if you refridgerate your donuts.

Hey y’all I just got done making these. I would recommend using the banana extract if you have some. I didn’t have any on hand and just used vanilla. There wasn’t enough banana flavor in them for me. I also added a little extra Nutella in the glaze yummy!!
