the gooey muffins tops are the best part. i’ve only had a vitatop once before and they are crazy good! so much chocolate decadent flavor in only 90 cals! they are perfect. I should try them homemade. 🙂 sally @ sallys baking addiction recently posted..apple spice cupcakes with salted caramel frosting.
I loooooooove VitaTops but you’re right, they’re expensive! Eeek. I love these muffin tops. Reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld where Elaine opens the Top of the Muffin shop 🙂 “what about the stumps?!” These look super plush and delicious, and the chocolate chunks on top look SUPER yummy!! Finally, a healthy reason to use my muffin top pan besides staring at it and making ridiculously calorie-laden cookies lol. Well, I’m sure I’ll also be using this pan for plenty of calorie-laden treats. But seriously, I’m planning to keep a stash of these on-hand for when I need a little treat and not a lot of calories. They seriously turned out awesome and were SO easy to make.
Oh my god, I have been waiting for something like this! I have always wanted to try those vita top things but have never wanted to fork over the money. I’m so all over these. Pinned! Dorothy @ Crazy for Crust recently posted..Triple Mocha Donuts
Thank you for this wonderful recipe. I have made these several times, and they turn out just like your beautiful picture. Plus they taste amazing. I’ll be making these a lot.
Question- can I sub real sugar? I know it makes it less healthified, but I prefer my kids not eat all these sugar substitutes- when even with additional sugar, they are still probably lower in sugar than most cereals! Also, I just checked at the store today and those darn vita tops are over $1 each! For for almost $5! These are totally worth making and I love that I know what’s in them!
Melissa: yes! Substituting real sugar will work just fine. 🙂 I know, the price on those VitaTops is crazy, huh? I love ’em, but for over $1 each, it’s worth it to make my own! Hope you and the kiddos like this version.
Ooooh these look so delish. Putting on my list to make…

Sally, I bet you could make an awesome version of these! Now I’m thinking of trying to figure out a pumpkin version…
These sound incredible! Can’t wait to try. Hubby will be happy.
Marica, you and Terry HAVE to make these. They really turned out moist, and they are super healthy–and no guilt-trip when you eat one, either. =)
