Why You Should Keep a Pantry Inventory List
Why should you keep a pantry inventory list? Simple. This one little sheet will save you time, money, and keep you organized.
Pin it NOW to save it for later!
So, we are talking today about why you should keep a pantry inventory list. I know, I know – if you’re like me, making/keeping another rolling list seems like yet another thing to do on my already insanely long list of to-dos. But hear me out.
There are MANY reasons I keep a pantry inventory list:
- it helps me easily meal plan – something I highly recommend. We’ll talk about that more in a later post – stay tuned!
- it keeps me from running out of staple ingredients I like to keep on hand;
- conversely, it keeps me from stockpiling items I don’t need, spending money I don’t need to (you know, those buy 10 “deals” the market usually has running); and
- it ensures that we eat the food we already have on hand before it expires.
So ultimately, this bad boy saves me TIME and MONEY, yo.
Where should I put this list?
It’s really up to you. Many people use a household organizing binder to keep their systems in place, but I’m not big on having papers to flip through – I’m all about Marie Kondo-ing the crud out of everything right now, so the less paper/folders/et cetera, the better. 😉
Our pantry is super tiny, so I just printed one copy of this bad-boy, laminated it, and taped it to the inside of my pantry door. That way, I cut down on paper waste and I can see what’s in the pantry and what ingredients I’m getting low on right when I open the door.
You could also print multiple copies, put them in a clipboard and hang the clipboard inside your pantry with a pen attached for easy updating. Do what works best for you!

10 EASY SLOW COOKER MEALS RECIPE BOOK
Hello There!
Interestingly enough, I didn’t grow up with an interest in cooking.  In fact, I informed my mother on multiple occasions that I was not getting an advanced education so I could spend my evenings preparing meals.

thanks….great idea
This is a great idea! I printed out three as I have three pantries, one for spices and seldom used items (molasses and corn starch etc.), one for all my extra canned and bottled items and one for pastas, flours and sugars. And yes I do stock a veriety o each as I have no idea what I will be in the mood to make! haha. (It all depends on how much clean up I am able to do.)
PS: We just did a clean out of our freezers and have more pork than any sane family needs! I would love a list for freezer foods so I can take it shopping with me (that’s what I plan to do with the pantry lists too!). Thanks!
