Slow Churned Smiles with Edy’s Ice Cream

Slow Churned Smiles with Edy’s Ice Cream

It’s been a busy summer here, and I can’t decide if I’m sad or relieved to see it come to an end.

In the eleven weeks of summer vacation, we’ve attended:

one week of basketball camp,
six weeks of karate camp, and
three weeks of camp through the local recreation center.

We’ve played a month of t-ball.

Hosted three kid-related parties.

Enjoyed a week-long family vacation.

Spent “free” nights and weekends at the pool.

And eaten a lot of ice cream. That’s what summer is for, right?

Ice cream is my family’s favorite summertime (um, anytime??) treat.

We eat it just because,
after a hot day at the pool,
to celebrate t-ball wins, or
for cheering up (both Doodle and mom needed ice cream after an evening in the emergency room).

So when we discovered that Edy’s has a limited special edition Take the Cake flavor for summer (through August31), we had to try it out. Ice cream sampling is what we do best around my house, and birthday cake flavored anything is Doodle’s favorite.

This flavor didn’t disappoint – with yellow cake flavored light ice cream mixed with blue frosting swirl and bursting with multi-colored sprinkles, Take the Cake is the classic combination of cake and ice cream in one convenient carton.

We love Edy’s ice cream, because they churn together wholesome ingredients like nonfat milk to get ridiculously rich and creamy ice cream – but with only half the fat and 1/3 fewer calories than regular ice cream.

That means I can add some extra toppings to mine, right? 😉

Along with the special edition Take the Cake, Edy’s also offers German Chocolate Cake Spectacular. This flavor mixes rich chocolate light ice cream with a caramel coconut swirl and brownie pieces. Yeah, I’m down with that. I also added chocolate sprinkles, slivered almonds, and chocolate syrup to mine.

Hey, if I’m gonna do ice cream, I’m going to go all out. It’s all about the smiles, right? 🙂

Doodle had plenty of smiles during this photo shoot, because he stole my ice cream! He definitely takes after his mom.

What are your everyday smile moments? How do you celebrate them?

P.S.– If you missed the Slow Churned Limited Edition summer flavors, don’t worry! Pumpkin and Peppermint will be available in early September, so you can enjoy new fall flavors soon.

Hello There!

Interestingly enough, I didn’t grow up with an interest in cooking.  In fact, I informed my mother on multiple occasions that I was not getting an advanced education so I could spend my evenings preparing meals.
